Storyboard

We have created a storyboard digitally. We used phots of the set we have chosen a made them in to a storyboard discussing our shots. However, we are not able to upload it at the present time due to lack of disc space.

Shot List

This is our shot list.
It varies from our original story board, as we deleted some shots and merged others together to improve our final product.
Thrillers Powerpoint
Script

This was our first plan of the script. After a rehearsal we felt it did not work or fit with our storyboard and when it came to filming we changed the script so it would fit in better with the themes we had discussed in our thriller power point. We also had originally chosen to name the film '?' and then decided to change it to 'Entity' which is the idea of existence relating to the creature/murderer that is lurking around the house in our film.

Udated Film Brief - Emma Parsons

Film Brief

Our film is identeded to be a stereotypical example of the thriller genre. The main characters are three, young girls that are home alone one evening. We chose to do this so as to create a situation involving vulnerable young women which is ofen found within thrillers.

The girls decide to order a pizza during the night and shortly after their food arrives they begin getting harssassed with a repeated knocking at the door. When one of the characters goes to check who's at the door, each time no one is there. We chose to keep the predator anonymous for some time to add to the suspense and the fear in the piece. Again, this is a very common technique used in thriller films.

After the final knock one of the girls says that she has noticed someone outside the house, near the patio doors. They try phoning for help but phoneline isn't working. By this point the girls are beginning to panic, building supsense for the audience. Just after the girls realise the phone isn't working the delivery man jumps violently through the patio door wielding a knife, making both the characters in the story jump, and the audience.

We chose to use the delivery man for the killer because many thrillers often contain a twist in the story, for example; often the people who are being terrorised discover they are actually being harassed by someone they don't suspect and appear to be harmless, like in our piece, the delievery man.

Purpose of the opening to a film...

- engage the audience.
- introduce story line and events.
- introduce characters and their situation.
- credits.
- set the scene.
- tell the 1st part of the story.

* In the opening to "Scream" the setting is introduced as a house. In the 1st 5 mins only one character is on screen on the phone to the phsyco. The thought of being watched and not being able to know who it is. The actress in the opening Drew Barrymore is really famous and you assume that she will be the heroine, but then she is actually murdered in the first 10 mins in the opening scene. This is good because its unpredictable, and gets the audience hooked to find out who the mystery killer is, and this has given us some good ideas for our project.
Below is the opening to the film 'Scream':
